Friends of the Ledges (FOTL) is dedicated to the stewardship of climbing areas and preserving the tradition of climbing in the eastern White Mountains of New Hampshire and Maine. The organization is led by a board of directors and a group of active volunteers who focus on two key priorities: (1) maintaining access to climbing areas by behind-the-scenes work with landowners, land managers, and other user groups; and (2) active stewardship of climbing areas by replacing aging bolts, maintaining and improving trails, and organizing cliff clean-ups.
Climbers from around New England and beyond get involved and show their support by becoming annual members and volunteering for stewardship projects.
Friends of the Ledges hosts one annual membership meeting per year and quarterly meetings of the Board of Directors. Information about the annual membership meeting is published in advance of the meeting. Meetings are typically held in North Conway with the location TBD. The organization leads stewardship events throughout the year, including a "spring cleaning" cliff clean-up at Cathedral and Whitehorse, and an annual clean-up at Jockey Cap. Friends of the Ledges serves as the property steward for Upper Saco Valley Land Trust's Climber's Preserve and the Town of Fryeburg's Jockey Cap Nature Area. Check out the events page and our social media for more information about stewardship days and other FOTL events.
